Profile

Hey, I’m Amaranth. Well that is actually a netname I use. I will not give my full name here, which would not be very smart and maybe even clearer once you have seen the rest of my poetry. But you can always contact me through the email address given below.

I was born in 1970 in the Netherlands. My native language is Dutch, but I have a lot of experience speaking English so moving to the United States was not too hard. I was able to improve my English and tutor in English as a second language and Mathematics. I was able to earn a degree in the Netherlands as a Math and History teacher for 12 to 16-year-olds. I found out I never want to become a teacher during that 4 years, I’m not suited for it. But I am a good tutor, and I enjoy it. Currently I work for the State of Oregon as a lead worker so I get to help colleagues and do training, which fits my interests and experiences very well.

My hobbies are as important to me as my work though, although due to the chronic fatigue, sciatica and some other issues I haven’t been able to do a lot lately.. I am a somewhat active member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, also called SCA, and started in the European branch, Drachenwald. Now in Oregon I am part of the Kingdom of An Tir. The SCA is a society that recreates the Middle Ages on a romantic and recreational level, and I enjoyed that a lot. My specialisation there is songwriting and music, and you will find MANY many songs and poems of me on this webpage. I sing and play the renassance lute as well as lute-ar or guitar-lute.

I also should tell of my religion. Since I am not a Christian like my mother anymore but started studying wicca when I was about 20 and at about 22 became an initiated witch, though not of a tradition but eclectic. Lately I have not been as good at holding rites as I wished to but I have been very active before. The coven I was a part of in the Netherlands has even made a course for starting eclectic wiccans and written a teaching book. Wicca is very important to me. It gives me answers to questions like “Why are we living? What is the need for suffering? What happens after death?” answers I have found nowhere else, and a sense of magic and purpose in my life I would miss otherwise.

Then there is roleplaying. Roleplaying is taking an imaginary person that you have thought up yourself, like the leading characters of a book, placing them in a specific situation, then telling others how your personage would react to such situations. Those persons are called characters. I roleplay with a group in the weekends around a table, I roleplay on the net a lot more and I also do such in costume at times, in a Life action roleplaying, or short LARP as it is called. Some of my favorite characters have their own place here, with the songs and poems I have written for them, sometimes drawings I have made.

Well that is enough in text about me now. If you want to know more, read my songs and poems, look at my drawings, or email me. You can also reach me on Discord amaranth13 if you want to chat a bit. I will try to send you an answer, as long as you’re polite and supportive.

May the Sun and the Moon shine on your path and may you find your deepest desire!

Amaranth
